Adding a pet to your family is exciting. Petsadena provides the care your new pet needs to develop and thrive. Puppy and kitten care lays the foundation for healthy physical development and integration into the new family. During the first weeks and months of life, there is much to discuss! At this time, we can help you implement healthy eating and behavior patterns that revolve around your pet and your lifestyle.
One of the most important aspects of early veterinary care is screening and preventive treatments. Both kittens and puppies are vulnerable to certain conditions.
Preventive Care
During routine puppy and kitten visits, we discuss an appropriate vaccination schedule to fit each pet’s individual needs and lifestyle based on guidelines set forth by the America Animal Hospital Association and the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Socialization is an important part of your puppy or kitten’s life. Until they are fully vaccinated against contagious diseases, special care should be given to prevention. We discuss how you can help you pet adopt excellent social skills while avoiding an increased risk of illness. The best time to instill good habits in your pet and in your family is when your new family member is still a puppy or kitten. Routine veterinary care addresses the issues that will affect your life together, such as socialization, obedience, dental care, nail trimming, house-training, and more. Our staff has experience with a wide variety of breeds. We understand the challenges you face when bringing a new pet home, and have the knowledge to assist you in creating a harmonious transition.
Spaying and Neutering
Dr Evelyn with Bob the puppy!
During your initial visit, we will discuss the recommended schedule for spay or neuter. This will depend on the size and breed of your kitten or puppy.
Parasite prevention and nutritional counseling are also important topics to discuss when your pet is still young. Heartworm prevention is recommended for puppies and kittens aged 8 weeks or older. We may also screen for worms every six months, and will provide you with information for flea and tick prevention.
